Our History
We opened our doors in April 2014, just a block from the White House, with a simple mission: celebrate the humble grilled cheese by treating it like a chef-driven sandwich. What started as a father-and-son project has grown into a warm, neighborhood spot where guests can grab a quick, perfectly toasted sandwich by day and linger over wine, cheese plates, and small bites by night.
Our menu mixes imaginative signature sandwiches with a buildyourown option so everyone gets exactly the melty comfort they want think creative combos (seasonal specials, seafood and fusion riffs), house mac & cheese, and soups for dunking. Were proud of the flavor experiments we run through our grills and the way a single sandwich can feel both nostalgic and adventurous.
We source as much as we can from local DCarea producers and partners, and youll see those ingredients featured across our menu and special events. Over the years weve been fortunate to be highlighted in local press and on food-and-travel shows, but what we care about most is seeing regulars and newcomers enjoy great comfort food made with real, local ingredients.
